Introducing The Stanfield Legacy Fund
In the 35 years that Rev. Burns Stanfield has served at the Fourth Presbyterian Church, he has personally supervised over 100 interns from seminaries like Harvard Divinity School, Boston University, Anodover Newton, and Princeton Theological Seminary. After working and learning at Fourth Church, these interns are now serving God in various capacities all over the country and globe. They are pastors, social workers, elected officials, community organizers, professors, and chaplains. Over time, Fourth has come to think of itself as a learning community for spiritual leaders and the legacy of that particular ministry will continue after Burns’ retirement this winter.
When asked about the idea of a legacy initiative, Burns requested that funds be raised to support future interns at the church. While schools provide some support for interns, many are still raising their own support to pay for their living expenses while completing their work. The Stanfield Legacy Fund will make it possible for more students to serve God at Fourth Presbyterian Church – and wherever they are called next.
